JESUS – isn’t that a precious name?! The one who bears that name is our SAVIOR who was virgin-born, therefore free from sin (Matthew 1:16, 18)! He came to save us from our sins. In delivering us from our sin, it meant being rescued from the penalty of sin which is death. By Jesus, the light has come to shine upon us who were in the shadow of death (Luke 1:79 from Isaiah 9:2). No longer are we bound to an eternity of separation from God, but we have received life eternal by the name of Jesus! His person, in living perfectly in this sin-cursed world, and His work in dying on the cross for this sin-cursed world, has provided the only way to the Father (John 14:6)!! The name of Jesus is above every name and is the only name by which we must be saved (Philippians 2:9; Acts 4:12). Only Jesus has provided salvation, so that only in Him is found full forgiveness from all our sin (Ephesians 1:7), and the promise of everlasting life with Him (1 Peter 1:3-4).
This same JESUS is willing to call us a friend upon coming to Him by faith. It is beyond me how I could become a friend of God and find in Jesus “a friend that sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). Jesus is a dear friend that has laid down His life for me out of great love (John 15:13). Once an enemy of God as a friend of the world, now I have been brought near by the blood of my Savior and stand opposed to the world (Ephesians 2:13-18; 1 John 2:15).
Our precious Savior, JESUS, has gone into Heaven and has become a wonderful mediator for us. Now we have one who knows us, since He has become one of us (yet without sin), and now advocates for us as a faithful and acceptable intercessor (Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 John 2:1; Hebrews 7:22-25)! His prayers on our behalf never fall on deaf ears. The access we have to the Father through our Savior is full and free (Hebrews 10:19-20).
