For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Philippians 3:20
We are to live our lives with our minds set on things above and not on things of this earth (Colossians 3:2). This world is passing away with the lusts thereof, but those who do the will of God abide forever (1 John 2:17). Therefore, having been given an inheritance in Heaven, a house and a city which is truly a place that we can call home and is home for us eternally, we can relinquish the ways of this world and works of our sinful nature as we are just passing through this land as pilgrims and foreigners on our way to something far better (1 Peter 2:9-12; Philippians 1:23). Don’t seek to put down roots here and revel in the worldly pleasures that are just for a brief moment in time, for in the end they detract from God’s best and lasting rewards. We must have our focus on the there and then instead of the here and now!
Two little lines I heard one day, Traveling along life’s busy way; Bringing conviction to my heart, And from my mind would not depart; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Give me Father, a purpose deep, In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep; Faithful and true what e’er the strife, Pleasing Thee in my daily life; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Oh let my love with fervor burn, And from the world now let me turn; Living for Thee, and Thee alone, Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne; Only one life, “twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, yes only one, Now let me say, “Thy will be done”; And when at last I’ll hear the call, I know I’ll say ’twas worth it all”; Only one life,’ twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
