“Good things come to those who wait” as the old proverb says, which is especially true when waiting upon the Lord is involved. The process of waiting is the hard part, but even in the interim period of waiting for the end result we can find rich blessings if we learn to give thanks for the small gains/gifts while developing a greater measure of contentment.
“Godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6). So in the midst of waiting on an answer to prayer, on the larger scale don’t miss out on your daily walk with God. The wait allows time for us to draw closer to Him and rejoice in His grace for the next step, if we willing refuse worldliness and wantonness against Christ (2 Peter 2:18; Romans 13:13-14). Don’t let waiting wear upon you and lead you away from Christ while seeking after your own reasoning, but let it draw you to the Lord upon your knees in worship and utter dependance. Take to heart Lamentations 3:26 that encourages us that “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.”
We must be careful to concentrate our thoughts, by time in the Word, upon the daily compassions and mercies that flow to us through a faithful God. His unchanging perfections can offer the stability we need to cast out doubt and sinful desires that would cause us to drift and become shipwrecked. (Lamentations 3:24-25; Malachi 3:6; 1 Timothy 1:19-20)
Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalm 27:14
