"90% Mental - The other half is physical"

Distance running is demanding! Much of those demands consists of stresses and strains on the body, yet much also lies on the mindset and focus that it requires. Thus, the Scriptures employ words, such as “forgetting” or “considering” when it mentions the race of faith we have entered (Philippians 3:13; Hebrews 12:3). There are so many distractions that the world will throw our way to get us off course, difficulties that will line the course of life that could trip us up and cause us to stumble, deficiencies in our lives that try to drag us down or hold us back, and discouragements that if allowed to rage in our souls could weigh us down (1 Peter 1:13; Galatians 5:7; Hebrews 12:1).

So, my brothers and sisters in Christ, our undivided attention must be riveted on the road ahead of us and the finish line that is approaching for each of us (Philippians 3:14). There is no time to dwell on our past accomplishments or former personal regrets! Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus’ accomplishments for us and promises to us will keep us on track and keep us from the many pitfalls along the path (Hebrews 12:2).

Determination and discipline will mark the life of a faithful Christian. There will be no shortcuts or skirting of the rules to seek an advantage, for, ultimately, those will only result in disqualification from any reward (2 Timothy 2:5). Also, indulging oneself in pursuits of this life will be denied for the greater pursuit of God’s holiness, righteousness, and truth in order to lead other people to that same joyful end (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Acts 20:24).

Will you run well, running to obtain the prize? Will you run to the end? Will you set the pace for others to follow? Let’s keep looking to Jesus and seeking His “well done” as we finish our course (2 Timothy 4:7-8)!
