FRIEND - Wow! That word conjures up a host of wonderful thoughts, and not a few memories forged through the good and the bad times.
Friends are loyal, available and loving at all times (Proverbs 17:17). It is a blessing to know that matter the day or time there is someone who will listen and care. There is someone you can count on and trust with your deepest thoughts, yet will think no less of you. Also, a friend will faithfully tell you what you need to hear, and not necessarily what you want to hear (Proverbs 27:6). Instead of their advice tearing at the fabric of your relationship, it is meant to (and if allowed to will) strengthen the bond (Proverbs 27:9). So take in the words of a friend to your betterment, for not everyone will be so kind and considerate as to speak the truth in love.
It is not everyday that you find a true friend that will have a good effect upon you by a good example. Most people have a dulling, damaging effect. So hold onto those that are seeking Christ and abiding in Him through His Word, and be that kind of friend for mutual benefit (Proverbs 27:17).
Don’t take friends for granted, or abandon long-time friends of your family (Proverbs 27:10). Be sure to appreciate friends, keep in touch, and thank the Lord for such wonderful people He has allowed in your life. Above all, cultivated new friendships while deepening existing ones, especially the greatest friendship, that of Christ who remains a friend that is closer than a brother, now and always (Proverbs 18:24).
Proverbs 18:24a “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly . . .”
