Is there a heart over bound by sorrow?
Is there a life weighed down by care?
There is much in this life that could overwhelm the soul. We hear of senseless killings of innocent lives, know of shattered homes by reckless abuse, struggle with sunken markets and soaring inflation, or wonder if conflicts will arise with China, North Korea, Iran or another nation in the near future. If these weren’t enough causes for discouragement, we could list a host of other troubles and cares. So, how do we combat the multitude of fears that could paralyze us or cause us to run and seek to hide?
Far be it from Christians to give up or leave their posts (Psalm 11:1)! We have a God that will never abandon us, even in the hard times, as we draw night unto Him, He has promised to draw nigh unto us (James 4:7-8). Run to the Lord in times of testing. He longs to hear your cries and dry your tears. It is the Lord’s strong arm that is able to lift you up and carry you along (Isaiah 41:10). He is our protection from any enemy that would seek our harm. It is our God that grants wisdom as foolishness pervades our society (James 1:5). All your anxiety, all your care, bring to the mercy seat, leave it there, never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus.
Fear not what man can do unto you - take therefore no thought for tomorrow - be careful for nothing - fear not them that can kill the body, but not the soul - Let not your heart be troubled (Hebrews 13:6; Matthew 6:34; Philippians 4:6; Matthew 10:28a; John 14:1, 27b)
Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and He shall strengthen thine heart - Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you - godliness with contentment if great gain - be content with such things as you have - casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you - fear Him who can cast both soul and body into hell - be of good cheer, I have overcome the world - my peace I give unto you. (Psalm 27:14; Matthew 6:33; 1 Timothy 6:6; Hebrews 13:5; 1 Peter 5:7; Matthew 10:28b; John 16:33; 14:27a)
