Walking with Christ involves a desire to please Him in all that we think, say and do. In coming to know our Lord more from day to day, we learn to walk away from the things that once captivated our minds, flew out of our mouths in the past, or before occupied our viewing and activities. In addition, our associations begin to change (Proverbs 13:20). As a DISCIPLE there will become “C”onvictions formed and founded of which will direct our steps and decisions toward the good. These will be non-negotiables that will be based on direct commands and instructions of Christ as well as principles that are clearly given or discerned in the Word of God (Hebrews 5:12-14).
As children, we are called to be imitators of God. Therefore, first, Christ’s love for us and our love for Him will guide our purity of body and speech (Ephesians 5:1-4). Our Lord was always thinking of others with an eye to their wellbeing. Conversely, people were always watching and listening to the Lord as a role model. How is our example in speech and conduct (1 Timothy 4:12)? Furthermore, we must walk in light (goodness, righteousness and truth by the Spirit), guarding carefully our eyes and ears from allowing evil, wrongdoers, and false philosophies of the world and worldly minded (performers, entertainers, etc.) to draw our hearts into an unproductive state (Ephesians 5:8-11). Finally, walking with Christ makes us observant and careful of pitfalls so that our witness to the lost is not obscured or ineffective (Ephesians 5:15-17).
