Wounded For Me

“For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear it (the old rugged cross) to dark Calvary”, and although “despised by the world” there on the cross “the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain.” The love of Christ for you and me is beyond words to describe (2 Corinthians 9:15). The Lord Jesus freely gave His life as one accused of wrong, yet He was just (“no fault was found in Him”) because “He knew no sin” and “did no sin”(John 19:4, 6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22). His death was for the wrongs we (each one of us, none excluded) have committed against a Holy God (Romans 3:10). Jesus was slandered for us, shamed for us, suffered for us, and sacrificed His very life for us. He “bare our sins in His own body on the tree (cross)”, was “bruised for our iniquities (sins)”, and beaten beyond recognition for us (1 Peter 2:24).

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.

All the enduring of the wrath of God that we deserve was poured out upon Jesus during a three-hour period while He writhed in agony upon the cross to which He was nailed (Matthew 27:35, 45-46). The Lord Jesus’ sacrifice became the propitiation (complete satisfaction) necessary for our sin (1 John 4:10). There in that time-frame Jesus’ blood became the only ransom price worthy to make full payment for our sin. Thus, affording us eternal redemption (making us completely free) from our sin through His shed blood. The offer of remission (forgiveness) of our sin is now made possible and fully available because of Christ’s death on the cross.

Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

How can anyone obtain the forgiveness of their sin and freedom from their sin with its attached penalty of eternal condemnation and punishment? FAITH is the operative word, that which will always bring the desired result (Romans 4:24-25). In fact, faith in Christ and in Christ’s finished work for you on the cross is the only thing that can and will save your soul from separation from God in an eternal hell (Acts 4:12). Christ in His death, and no one else and nothing else, can save (deliver you from your sin and sin’s guilty sentence). Your faith is not displaced if it is found in Christ because it is noted in the Scriptures that He is risen, alive forevermore, and offers you not just freedom and forgiveness from your sin, but eternal life in Him and with Him. Therefore, to believe in Christ will never disappoint!

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 10:11
