“Pray without ceasing”
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Prayer is a vital link to our Heavenly Father as believers in Christ. The access of communication is unparalleled. We will never find that the Father is not at home. Our Father will never be napping. You can be sure that there will be a clear connection every time we approach the Father. He hears everything that you express, for he is not hard of hearing nor inattentive to our pleas. O sure, there can be disruptions on our part, if we allow sin in our hearts to remain unchecked (Psalm 66:18), but an open line is readily available upon confession since our Father is always ready to immediately forgive (1 John 1:9).
So, let us go early and often to the “throne of grace” with confidence (Hebrews 4:16). Let us “[make] requests with joy” and “with thanksgiving” (Philippians 1:4; 4:6). Let our prayers be offered up “without wrath and doubting” as we seek peace and pursue it in the bond of peace among our brothers and sisters in Christ (1 Timothy 2:8). In all, let us pray “according to His will” in the realm of the Spirit (1 John 5:14). Going through life upon our knees will provide the help we need and a closeness with God we desire.
What of our prayers as we approach our Father in the precious name of Jesus, the one who has made freely bending the ear of the Almighty possible by His blood? How should we pray? What should we say? The examples of godly people and their prayers that they brought to God are plentiful in the Scriptures. It is of great benefit to follow in the footsteps of these men and women of faith and set our own example to the next generation of a church that is living in utter dependence on our Lord!
“Lord, teach us to pray . . .”
