Repentance and Confession are necessary components of the Christian’s walk of faith. Do we sorrow over sin in our lives? Do we readily admit to our sins with specificity? How often are we prone to be repeat offenders and regard iniquity in our hearts?
2 Corinthians 7:9a–10a Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed
to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner . . . 10 For godly sorrow
worketh repentance . . .
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Confession is “saying the same thing that God says about our sin”. We need to come to loathe sin (reject it as repulsive and life altering), depart from iniquity (run from it), and abstain from evil (keep far from it).
Romans 12:9b Abhor that which is evil . . .
2 Timothy 2:19 . . . Let every one that nameth the name of
Christ depart from iniquity.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Each of us as believers in Christ would desire an ever-closer fellowship with Him and with His people of the church. We would long to have uninterrupted communion with our Lord in prayer as we would ask and seek His answers to lives perplexities and problems. Confessing our sin to God regularly and forsaking our sin determinately will result in such blessedness.
Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will
not hear me:
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper:
But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them
shall have mercy.
Let us see clearly the awfulness of daily sin and seek to please Christ with clean hands and pure hearts, claiming His forgiveness!
