As followers of Christ we are all experiencing the Christian life together. Sure, the particulars of the trials we face in this life will vary, but each of the difficulties bear the marks of Christ’s suffering and lead us all to deeper faith in Him. We must, therefore, fulfill the law of Christ to “love one another” as we “S”hare the Burdens that each of us is called to bear (Galatians 6:2). Extending an encouraging word, a helping hand, or a listening ear are all used to shoulder the weight of life’s heavy load (Galatians 6:10).
We should not try to navigate this walk of faith alone, nor do we have to do so. The path will require us to depend on one another for prayer, friendship, gifts, meals, and much more (James 5:16; 2 Cor. 13:12; 1 Cor. 12:25; Romans 12:13; 1 Peter 4:9). If we share in these times of need together, then no one will become overburdened. Let us become adept at giving and receiving. We receive joy in giving but let us not deprive someone of the same joy when we are in need (Romans 12:10).
All this serving of one another in love will demand sacrifice, and selfless sacrifice at that. If we will show humility toward one another and elevate the needs of others above our own needs, we will demonstrate the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:3-5).
