“When morning gilds the skies, my heart awaking cries, may Jesus Christ be praised!” From the dawning of the day and throughout all our days our Lord is worthy of the most deep-seated and heart-felt worship. Our God’s grace, mercy, compassion, and faithfulness to His own is unmatched in its fulness. There is no possible way of capturing in words or of orchestrating our lives to completely match up with His beauty and majesty, yet we are called to “shew forth the praises of Him who hath called [us] out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Let us give unto the Lord the glory that is due unto His name in our songs, since He is great, and greatly to be praised (Psalm 96). It is not as if we can ever come to an end of ascribing to the Lamb “power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing”, for the song of praise will ring out for all eternity to the one that was “slain, and hast redeemed us to God by [His] blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:12, 9)!
Ah, the theme of “eternal redemption” that is unalterable and found only in our blessed Savior should conjure up “the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name” (Hebrews 9:12; 13:15). Let our hearts well up in joining the glad refrain written by the composer, Daniel Whittle, in “I Know Whom I Have Believed” as taken from 2 Timothy 1:12 . . .
I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for His own.
But I know Whom I have believèd,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
