A genuine witness for Christ is needed now more than ever before in the history of mankind. Why is this the case? Has this come to be based upon the church’s negligence to spread the gospel? Can we deduce that the world has become dull of hearing? Could it be that Satanic and demonic activity is on the rise due to the soon return of Christ? We would, no doubt, conclude that all of the above are contributors to a darkness enveloping the world around us. So what are we supposed to do about the ever increasing need represented in our culture today? I would like to say that the solution is simple and things could be remedied very quickly. That, evidently, is not the case, yet we must not give up in the face of defection of believers, disregard of unbelievers, or determination of the unseen forces.
Labor in love for Christ whose deep and abiding love should hold us to the task to which He has commissioned us (2 Corinthians 5:14; Matthew 28:18-20). Cultivate a heart of compassion for the lost through continuance in prayer unto our God of love that is long-suffering, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (Jude 20; 2 Peter 3:9). While others fade and flee in the task of seeking the lost, may we remain "stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as we know that our labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). Trust that by our example and faithful prayers to the Lord of the harvest that others will arise to testify boldly of Christ (Philippians 1:12-14; Matthew 9:36-38).
In the midst of the ever-hardening hearts of unbelievers and blinded minds Satan has induced over the lost, let us not wane in our trust in the gospel by which we were saved. Let us not stand by silently when we possess in our bodies a treasure that must be shared so that the excellency of the power may be known to be of God and not of us (2 Corinthians 4:7). Don’t be ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes (Romans 1:16). We must boldly, graciously, clearly, unreservedly, persuasively, and confidently proclaim our knowledge of the truth so that God’s Spirit can move in hearts to convince them of sin, righteousness and of judgment (Ephesians 6:19-20; Colossians 4:4-6; John 16:7-8).
Give me a passion for souls, dear Lord, a passion to save the lost . . . Help me to throw out the old lifeline, to those who are struggling near . . . Though there are dangers untold and stern, confronting me in the way, willingly still would I go, nor turn, but trust Thee for grace each day. Jesus I long, I long to be winning, men who are lost and constantly sinning; O may this hour be one of beginning, the story of pardon to tell.
