I pray you are allowing the hymns of the faith to resonate in your heart and mind while they instill in you the Words of Christ. Oh that our souls would become preoccupied and saturated with the godly songs to the point of drowning out and displacing the songs of this world!
As I sit and work this day, I am listening to sacred instrumental music played over “Abiding Radio”. It is beautiful, soul-stirring renditions of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16). This type of meditation upon the Lord by means of this good music is a part of the Spirit-filled life (Ephesians 5:18-19). Oh that the Spirit would have full control of all my life, every thought and action!
For instance, this particular phrase has been playing over in my heart, “I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delights - Things that are higher, things that are nobler, these have allured my sight.” It has brought to mind Colossians 3:2 that commands us to “set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.” Also, I think about the Scripture that declares the fleeting nature of sin’s pleasures in Hebrews 11:25 as opposed to the inestimable and lasting riches in Christ, declared in verse 26. This world and its perishing fancies don’t hold a candle to God’s imperishable pleasures performed after His will. So in the end, to forsake the world for Christ is to lose nothing and gain everything! Ah, “living for Jesus, a life that is true, striving to please Him in all that I do, yielding allegiance glad-hearted and free, this is the pathway of blessing for me . . . my life, I give, henceforth to live, O Christ for thee alone.”
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Ephesians 5:19
