Psalm 33:12a
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord . . .
The national scene is disconcerting to say the least. Our leadership is less than ideal from the biblical, moral or ethical sense. Corruption due to seeking power and wealth without seemingly any constraints is completely destructive to the foundations of our society. So, the political landscape is bleak with little accountability or responsibility for wrong actions. What should we remember regarding our God’s interest and interactions with the nations and its leadership?
1. The Most High determines the course of nations.
Daniel 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings . . .
2. The LORD directs the hearts of national rulers.
Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever he will.
3. The LORD dictates the extent of a nations power.
Isaiah 40:15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, And are counted as the small dust of the balance: Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. (note also verses 17-18)
4. The Most High God demands glory of the nations.
Daniel 4:25, 37 That they shall drive thee from men . . . till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
Therefore, do not allow the national scene to disrupt your peace. Remember & Trust in the Lord! (Psalm 11:1, 3-4)
Psalm 9:20 Put them in fear, O Lord: That the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah. (See also vv. 17-19)
