The Word of God is that which we should crave just as a baby does its mother's milk. If you have ever given a bottle to a little baby, then you have experienced an intense cry of great disapproval when the milk is taken away (1 Peter 2:2). Is our hunger for God's truth strong and the appetite never quite fully satisfied? We must acquire a desire that always longs to know more of our Lord and His ways, accompanied by a yearning to exercise our faith. Let's move from milk to meat as we mature in Christ so we can teach other's God's ways while demonstrating a life of discernment (Hebrews 5:11-14).
Job said that he "Neither [had] gone back from the commandment of his (God's) lips; [he had] esteemed the words of his (God's) mouth more than [his] necessary food" (Job 23:12). Job had not only taken in the Word but had processed it to the point of gaining all the proper nourishment from it. Other thoughts and philosophies did not have an appeal like God's words did. Job did not settle for something less than the best. For him it was just as the Savior said, "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of his mouth" (Matthew 4:4 from Deut. 8:3). Only God's word can sustain and strengthen us for the souls needs. It gives the needed wisdom and direction for our lives.
The Psalmist oftentimes delights in the sweetness of the Word of God as he compares it to honey. Such as in Psalm 19:10 where it is declared to be "Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." Also, in Psalm 119:103 the Lord's Word is exclaimed to be delectable with it said, "How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" God's Word will never disappoint!
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts. (Jeremiah 15:16)
