Don’t you ever have times when you wonder why life isn’t easier? Are there times when you say, “Lord, couldn’t things just go smoothly for once”? Why are things so hard?
The quick and easy answer is to understand and keep it in mind that we live in a sin-cursed world. We are imperfect and that everything around us has been affected by the fall of mankind. From the little thorny stickers that attach themselves to your clothing as you are just on a leisurely walk to the unknown predator that stalks you with the intention of taking away what is rightfully yours to enjoy, we experience the hardships that remain a troublesome situation because of a rebellious heart against God. Genesis 3:18–19 says, Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Then, there is the truth that if life were without hardships, the tendency of our sinful hearts would be to forget God. So, with the difficulties that arise, we must not swing the pendulum to blame our God. Instead, let us seek Him and His great wisdom and grace moment by moment in our lives - lives that are too much for us to face alone or on our own. Deuteronomy 8:12–14 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; 13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; 14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
The bottom line comes down to the fact that we will never know all the whys and the wherefores of life. That is the very reason we must walk by faith in the One who does know and does care deeply for us. He is working all things out for good. He is bringing honor and glory unto himself through the hardships that we face. If we can trust the Lord with our eternity, we can certainly trust Him with our now! Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God . . .
