THE CHURCH AND ITS CHILDREN
What are reasons for our youth departing from the church as they grow older and start making decisions on their own? Numerous reasons may exist that are outside of our control, but how can we encourage a faithfulness to the things of God? The church needs young people and young people need the church. I trust that we will consider four areas that are often lacking in our churches that must be addressed.
1) A LACK OF GENUINE EXAMPLES (1 Timothy 4:12)
2) A LACK OF ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT (Hebrews 10:24, 25)
3) A LACK OF CONTAGIOUS ENTHUSIASM (Romans 12:11)
4) A LACK OF VITAL EVANGELISM (Romans 10:1, 14-15)
Adults cannot shift all the blame upon the youth for leaving our congregations when we may be giving them little reason to stay. Why should they remain a part of something that may seem to them (and even to most adults) a drudgery, a place that requires little effort, and sees so little joy or excitement generated by growth and transformation of lives. These may not be the case in every instance, but, at times, only perceived by our youth. It is still up to us, as adults, to seek to change the perception. Therefore, let us accentuate the positives of living and serving our great God and Savior!
